It’s with celebratory coincidence that we greet the heart of the summer with the reopening of our iconic Moot Hall, in the heart of the town. Cumbria’s High Sheriff, our own Alan McViety, cut the ribbon to open the Moot Hall doors and signify the end of this initial phase of the Town’s refurbishments. It’s all change as more work, both ongoing and planned, continues around the town. This includes the reimagining of the main playground and funding already underway through the Platinum Playground Project, named in recognition of Her Majesty’s Jubilee. Our agenda for the rest of the summer includes more trees, more trains and even more ducks! More on those will be revealed soon.
We welcome our new Town Clerk to the fold. Polymath Sue Gilbertson is on hand to safely guide us through council and administrative pathways, ably assisted by equally energetic Emma Simpson. They kick ass.
I wish you all a long summer, please take time to pause, look around, reflect, give thanks for what we have, and enjoy Appleby for the joys and freedoms it offers.

Mayor of Appleby
