Appleby Town Council were honoured to host the presentation of a High Sheriff’s award to Appleby Smarter on Monday 20th March at the Moot Hall.
Alan McViety, High Sheriff of Cumbria presented the award to the group, saying “I was delighted to present a High Sheriff’s award to Appleby Smarter, a group of dedicated volunteers keeping Appleby smart and tidy.”
Mike Eden, Chair of Appleby Smarter commented “We are a small group of volunteers who meet to tidy, paint and garden in some of the public areas around the town to keep Appleby tidy for our local community. We are always looking for more volunteers to join our happy group. It’s great to get out and have a chat whilst doing the work.”
“We are delighted to receive this recognition from the High Sheriff of Cumbria for all the work that we do around Appleby.”
Appleby Smarter was setup 10 years ago by Carl Bendelow, who we are pleased to say is still part of the group!
