A: 12a High Wiend, Appleby-in-Westmorland, CA16 6RD

I was born in Leeds in 1934 starting in employment in the motor trade when 15 year old. Married my wife Jennifer in 1960 and we have 2 sons. I moved Appleby for the fishing and shooting in 1974 taking over a shoe shop in the Moot Hall that also supplied country wear, together with shooting and fishing equipment. I have also taught budding Anglers for more than 40 years.  I trained as a Chiropodist in 1982 and practice in Appleby and the surrounding area. I joined Appleby-in-Westmorland Town Council more than 25 years ago and was Mayor in 2016.

I was born in 1945 and spent 52 years living in London. My early career included over 7 years in the Metropolitan Police Force and then more than 19 years with British Telecom as a Logistics Manager. I moved to Appleby, with my wife Rita, in 1997. I joined Appleby-in-Westmorland Town Council in 2003 and was elected Mayor from 2006 to 2008. I had to leave the Council in 2012 due to the illness of my wife, but rejoined in 2013. I find being a Councillor interesting, infinitely varied and on occasions challenging.

I now manage an archaeology consultancy in Appleby called Eden Heritage Ltd. I founded Appleby Archaeology Group and in 2022 was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to Appleby-in-Westmorland. Cllr Ian Mycock

T: 07557 280101
E: cllrimycock@applebytown.org.uk

Prior to moving to Appleby, I was born, lived and worked in Manchester. I trained as an industrial chemist but soon realised that chemistry was not ideal for me. Next, I took on a local greengrocery business which grew to capacity and was great fun! My next venture was establishing an automotive accessory fitting business and after 30 years, I retired. With the development of the new Digital Market, I was keen to work with video, and briefly worked with other companies helping with their marketing. My wife and I visited Appleby and were captivated by the friendliness and beauty of the town and surrounding area, we decided to buy a house and move here. I hope, as a councillor, you will find me approachable and able to convey your thoughts and concerns to Appleby Town Council.

I came to Appleby Grammar School in 1973, got married in 1975, and for over forty years taught generations of local youngsters, including my own three children. I was first drawn into political activity through my interest in public transport. I was Mayor of Appleby, and currently serve as a unitary authority councillor, representing Appleby on Westmorland and Furness Council. I produced a book-length study of the history and mythology of Appleby Gypsy Horse Fair, which was published in 2015 and revised in 2019. I am interested in many sports and enjoy cycling, and watching live cricket and football.

I am currently self employed as an independent organisational consultant and management development trainer. I was born and raised in South Florida, America and my background is mainly in the education sector, however I also have experience in HR.  I taught primary and secondary school teachers in Northern Nigeria for 5 years, which was an amazing experience. My late husband, Ian Potts, was on the Council, so I decided to join and see what positive contributions I can make to Appleby.

I moved to Appleby with my husband in 2017 and feel very much at home here and love the town. I am very community spirited and like to help out where I can.  I have had a varied working life, having worked in taxation for many years, before I made a career change to setup my own business as a Life & Business Coach and NLP Practitioner. Although I have no direct experience in serving as a Councillor, I feel that my work, business and life experience will be of benefit to the Council and the community as a whole.
