Westmorland & Furness are starting work on a new 20 year Local Plan, which will replace all the existing Local Plans that were adopted by the former District Councils.

The Local Plan will:

  • set out how much new development (e.g. homes and employment sites) is needed to support our communities
  • make sure new development is built in the right places and in a way which is best for people and the environment
  • allocate sites for new housing and other development
  • protect some areas and green spaces from development
  • include policies that are used to decide planning applications
  • plan for development relating to minerals and waste

They are kicking off the process with an ‘early conversation’ with communities and stakeholders over summer 2024 and as part of this engagement are holding a series of drop in events.

The drop in event for Appleby is taking place in the Public Hall on Thursday, 18th July between 3-7pm.

If you are unable to attend the drop in event, you can send your views using the online form at Westmorland and Furness Local Plan: Early Conversation Survey 2024 – Page 1 of 18 – Westmorland and Furness Council – Citizen Space

Consultation closes 9 September 2024.

They are also running a Call for Sites exercise, asking people to identify land or sites that are available to be developed for housing and employment.

You can submit ideas using the online form at Westmorland and Furness Call for Sites 2024: Housing and Employment Sites – Introduction – Westmorland and Furness Council – Citizen Space

Consultation closes 30 September 2024.
